Edgar Plans

Edgar Plans is a Spanish artist born in 1977. Edgar Plans uses cartoon characters with mouse ears and big eyes as backgrounds in his works, decorated with graffiti. These seemingly spontaneous writings are reminiscent of paintings by Jean-Michel Basquiat or Cy Twombly.

Edgar Plans is particularly influenced by graffiti, street art, comics, illustrations and animated films. But above all it is his characters, which Plans describes as « heroic animals », that have made the artist famous and exhibited in numerous galleries. Much of his work features children in superhero roles, dressed in improvised, homemade superhero costumes. In his world, superheroes are no longer responsible for saving the world, after all, in a child’s world there is no heavy reality, but rather light dreams.

He wants people to focus not just on the imaginative drawings, but on the deeper meaning behind them. His cartoon character series are heavily influenced by comics and animated films, and he is constantly working with his characters to critique the harm that humans are doing to the planet, and to fight against gender violence and racism.
